YouTube Entertainment

We are all aware of YouTube's extreme usefulness when you want your blog post to have a song playing in the background, say, or embed a clip of an extreme biker dude. GZMoohoo uses it often to quite excellent effect. However, did you know there is a whole world of YouTube performers doing comedy, advice, and even what we might call TV-like shows? I only recently discovered this phenomenon (perhaps I'm late to the game) and was lucky to stumble upon some really great finds early on. Here now are a few of my favorites:

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries - A modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, told in video blog style. Here is episode 1 of 100:

It's so funny and spot-on to the spirit of the books. I may have spent far too much time starting at my computer screen when I discovered this show last year. My mom and I are now endeavoring to watch it together - it's pretty easy to do, since most of the episodes are no more than 3-4 minutes long.

Crash Course - Fun, educational videos tackling all sorts of general knowledge subjects. I particularly liked the US History set of videos.

From their YouTube bio: Eight awesome courses in one awesome channel: John Green teaches you World History and Hank Green teaches you Psychology. Check out the playlists for past courses in World History, Biology, Literature, Ecology, Chemistry, and US History.

Here's a highlight:

There are all sorts of other fun channels out there - I've got a few good comedy recommendations if anyone is interested, and one news channel that's not taking itself too seriously. And then of course, there is Between Two Ferns. Enjoy!

I have no neat segue, so here now a photo of cats being adorable, a time-honored internet tradition.

I thought the photo of an open window and green grass might cheer people up.

Comedians in cars getting coffee is usually pretty good.

Cat photos are mandatory.

I think we watched Slaying the Badger on youtube this summer. I'd have to check with someone younger who was there to be sure.

The best thing about this cat photo is the caption!

Funny and interesting links in this post. The POTUS and Zach was a bit weird.

PS We can watch more Lizzie Bennet Diaries episodes on Thursday while waiting for the traffic to slow down!
